Guys, seriously... we have 31 members, and only 7 claims?!? And of those claims, how many have had anything posted on them in the past month?

Now, I know I'm as guilty as the rest of you of getting lax in my posting, but we've really got to get on the ball here!

So, news first:

Dark Visions will be released in an omnibus edition on October 28th!

Strange Fate has an official release date in January!

These are just American release dates and are, of course, subject to change, but with the success of the other re-releases, they should be fairly accurate.

But, back to the question of participation. Would you guys like to do another fic exchange? I'm afraid they might be becoming a bit dull and predictable, but if you guys are up for it, so am I. If not a fic exchange, what else would you like to participate in? I want to hear your ideas. My ideas are not exactly fic related but may help spark some creativity... like, creating a fanmix for your claim (or possibly any old LJS fanmixable thing), creating icons for your claim, or doing a little stamping session where you could fill out an application and the other members would vote on who from the LJSverse you're most like. Let me know what you guys would like to do.

And please, seriously... post something.

Your obedient servant,
MC

Stole this from the _norrington comm:

Hi everyone,

There is some malware going around LJ hacking accounts for mods in large communities, that posts an announcement with links that says they are zapping the community. Then proceeding to do so.

So, if any of you see an announcement purporting to be from me that the comm is shutting down:

1) DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS - THEY ARE MALWARE
2) REPORT THE POST TO LJ ABUSE WITH THE FLAG BUTTON
3) LET THE ME KNOW ASAP BY EMAIL, IM, ETC.
4) DON'T CLICK THE LINKS!!

...x-posting to all my comms.

For those of you who have been living under a rock haven't heard yet, there will be A NEW VAMPIRE DIARIES BOOK! coming soon (like, a month!)!

So, for the first time since the inception of this community, we have to talk about spoilers. There are currently three claims that deal with The Vampire Diaries. If the authors who write these claims wish to reference anything from the new book, you MUST include a spoiler warning on the OUTSIDE of your cut, in the header. Lots of people do not like to get spoiled, so please be courteous to them, k?

Also, if you'd like to preorder the book, you can by clicking on the link in the sidebar of the comm. It says "Night World" and "Secret Circle" but I just haven't edited the text yet.

Oh, and remember to keep posting! =D

First, guys- your wish has been granted. From today on, your claims will be due within one year of your claiming them. Now, before you get too excitable- all current claims have been grandfathered in so that ALL of your due dates are 1/17/10.

Second- I updated the rules and regulations at the user info and also redid the profile. Go look at it. Seriously. I threw every possible computery skill I have at that profile, so go look at it. However, I've been looking at it for about 4 hours straight now, so I need you lot to read it over and catch any mistakes. A comment here when you've done so would also be nice so that I also know that you've read the new rules.

Third- In case you missed it, I posted the prompt tables (with html), and a text box for the header since it's a pain to type all the time. The links are on the profile (did I mention to go read the profile?). I also finally made up the second set of prompts for completed claims, and Elena will be claimed again as soon as I can find time to write a prompt every other day or so...

Seriously, guys... go look at the profile. If you don't, Julian will get mad. And when Julian gets mad, there's this whole bit with kidnapping your friends, and, well... it never ends well. So you might as well just go look.

Pretty self-explanatory, I think. Here are Prompt Table #1, Prompt Table #2, the html for each, and the html for the header ('cause it's a pain to type over and over). Feel free to comment with any questions or comments!

You can haz html code!Collapse )

K, guys, so by now I bet you're glad I made "Be more active in my comms" my #1 New Year's Resolution. :P

Alright, so a majority of you voted to repeal the monthly voting requirement. I have mixed feelings about this, personally, but I live to serve you. Before I settle the matter once and for all, I would like all of you- even you lurkers (I know you're there- I saw you vote in the last poll!)- to take the time and fill out this poll. Let me know what you think! I can't make the community what you want it to be unless you tell me what you want what you really, really want! I promise things will settle and the mod posts will calm down once this has been decided, but I would desperately love your feedback on the matter before I make my decision. And remember (though I think breadforsong and I are the only ones who've been here long enough), the posting requirements used to be weekly. So please fill out this poll and leave any additional thoughts in a comment!

Why do you think the once a month deadline should be removed?

I don't.
0(0.0%)
My schedule is too unpredictable to always post once a month.
0(0.0%)
It's too hard to write a drabble in a month.
0(0.0%)
Inspiration comes at weird times, not on a deadline.
0(0.0%)
TICKY BOX!
0(0.0%)

If the monthly deadline is repealed, do you favor any kind of deadline?

Yes, weekly.
0(0.0%)
Yes, having all of a claim due in one year's time.
0(0.0%)
No.
0(0.0%)
I told you, don't repeal it.
0(0.0%)
TICKY BOX!!
0(0.0%)

For the lurkers: Would you be more likely to make a claim if there was no deadline?

Yes.
0(0.0%)
No.
0(0.0%)
TICKY BOX!!!
3(100.0%)

If there was no deadline for the claims, how do you think challenged claims should be handled?

They shouldn't. I claimed it. It's mine 'til I die.
0(0.0%)
If the claim hasn't been updated in 6 months, it's fair game.
0(0.0%)
If the claim hasn't been updated in 3 months, it's fair game.
0(0.0%)
Mod's discretion (SINCE EVERYONE KNOWS THEY ONLY NEED TO TALK TO ME AND THEY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED DELINQUENT IN THEIR CLAIM)
2(100.0%)
TICKY BOX!!!!
0(0.0%)

What do YOU think would make this community a better place/more fun/more active?

Oh, and btw, tags are updated. You're welcome, Hattie :P

Title: Bad Reputation
Rating: PG
Word count: Dunno... typing this in the "post an entry" box- but lots!
Series: Dark Visions
Claim: Kaitlyn Fairchild
Prompt: #16- Fight
Summary: Don't give a damn about my bad reputation... Not so much about any actual fights as the fall-out from fighting while in school. Even when the fight's not your fault.
Notes: So, I think the number of reviews I've received on my Kaitlyn drabbles has been between 0 and 5, for all 15 so far. Not that I'm begging. Just pointing it out (says the least active reviewer of all time).

Hi, guys! Just a quick note to say "Happy New Year" right on time, like everything I do and to say I still haven't decided anything definite about the posting requirements. On the one hand, we don't have people banging on the door to claim somewhat inactive claims, but on the other 100 words a month is not that much and if you can't write a drabble for the month, it's definitely not that hard to ask me for an extension. Most of our overdue claims haven't even notified me that they wouldn't be updated. I'm not going to deny anyone's request for an extension unless it's outlandish (like, not posting for more than 6 months or something), and with the new profile page, it's super-simple to just click on my user info and then click "Private Message." You don't even have to bother with email! So, for the time being, the monthly deadline stands. The only other thought I had would be to have an entire claim due in a year which would cut down the amount of actual time allowed drastically, but it would also allow for longer absences in between. If any of you have thoughts, comments, concerns, suggestions, or questions, please just let me know! :)

Also, I had another idea to possibly up participation. What would you guys say to monthly contests? For example, I would announce a prompt for the month, which could be a certain character, a certain series, or something abstract like a word for inspiration. After the prompt was announced, you would have until the due date (sometime toward the end of the month) to write a 500-1000 word story and submit it. Once all the entries were in, we would post them anonymously and have voting- like for an icon contest. Just a thought- what do you guys think?

I remain your obediant servant,
-M
